Charles M. Lunda

February 29, 1940 ~ March 26, 2017 (age 77) 77 Years Old
Charles M. Lunda, or “Charlie” as he was known by friends and family, passed away unexpectedly Sunday, March 26, 2017 in East Jefferson General Hospital at the age of 77. As a leap year baby, he would be the first to point out he was only 19 ¼. Charles is mourned by his wife of 54 years, Patsy Jordan Lunda of Metairie; his son, Charles Christopher Lunda of Metairie; his daughter, Melissa Lunda Caruso (Phillip) of St. Louis formerly of Metairie; his grandchildren: David, Jordan, Macie and Joshua; his first cousin, Glenda Farrar (Charlie) of Columbus, MS; as well as his extended family of relatives and friends stretching across the country. He was welcomed at the gates by the women who raised him: his mother, Hazel Bingham Lunda and his grandmother, Eva Armstrong Bingham of Tupelo, MS and the father that loved him, Nelson Washington Lunda of Tupelo, MS.
Charles was born on February 29th, 1940 in Tupelo, MS. He moved to Metairie in 1956 and joined Metairie Baptist Church where he met and fell in love with his wife, Patsy. As high school classmates, they graduated from East Jefferson High School with the class of 1958. After a few years at LSU and time in the Air Force Reserves, Charlie couldn't bear to be so far apart from Patsy and followed her to Baylor University in Waco, TX. They were married in August of 1962 and welcomed their first child, son Chris, into their little family the following June. In 1966 Charlie had the opportunity to return his family from Texas to Metairie where he lived for the next 51 years. Though he completed his nuclear family in 1968 with the birth of his daughter Missy, Charlie never stopped growing his family of friends. Charles left this earth, peacefully at 9:30 pm holding the hand of his wife and with his grandson, David by his side.
A Celebration of Life is scheduled for Saturday, April 1, 2017 with visitation from 9 am -11 am followed by a memorial service in the sanctuary of Metairie Baptist Church, 401 Codifer Blvd., Metairie, LA 70005.
