Robert James Barron, 78 formerly of River Ridge, LA, passed away peacefully on February 4, 2018 in Austin, TX. He was born in Port Arthur, TX in 1939, the son of Elise Marie and Joseph Cilton Barron. He spent the majority of his life in the New Orleans area. He graduated from Rugby Academy in New Orleans, LA in 1957 and served in the Air Force from 1957 to 1960. He spent his career as an Engineering Specialist with the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development and retired from service in 1996. In earlier years he was a licensed pilot and drove his red Alfa Romeo sports car in Sports Car Club of America rallies. Later, he enjoyed woodworking and sailing.
Robert is survived by his brother, John Aldon Barron of Holden LA; his son, Robert James Barron Jr.; and his daughter-in-law, Penny Sue Barron of Sonoma, CA.
Memorial services will be held at the Garden of Memories Funeral Home, 4900 Airline Dr., Metairie, LA on Saturday, February 24 at 2:00PM. Friends may visit at the funeral home beginning at 12:00PM.
