Joseph G. Steinkamp, age 89, died on Thursday, October 12, 2017 at Ochsner Hospital. Beloved husband of Meriam Butler Steinkamp and the late Dolores Chadwick Steinkamp by first marriage. Father of Michael K. Steinkamp (Jan) of Baton Rouge, LA, Ricky C. Steinkamp (Debbie) of Kenner, LA, and David C. Steinkamp (Alexis) of Hauppauge, NY. Stepfather of Dr. Linda Coyle, Donna Thiebaud, Jeanne Orgeron (Philip). Survived by thirteen grandchildren and twenty-eight great-grandchildren. Brother-in-law of Clay Chadwick of Lacombe, LA. Preceded in death by his parents, George E. Steinkamp and Jennie Spatafora Steinkamp.
Joseph was born in New Orleans, LA and was a resident of Harahan, LA since 1956. He worked and retired from Shell Oil Company after 40 years. He was an avid square and round dancer belonging to many clubs. He was a member of the Mike Miley Golden Age Club, the ILC/Shell Oil Retirees Club of Metairie, and the Cajun Culture Club where he had many friends. He enjoyed dancing, playing cards, and traveling with these clubs. He enjoyed his family especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren and many social activities. The family would like to give special thanks to the Ochsner physicians and staff of the CICU for their care of Joseph.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend the Memorial Service at Garden of Memories Funeral Home, 4900 Airline Drive in Metairie, LA on Saturday, October 21, 2017 at 12:00 Noon with a visitation from 10:00 am until 12:00 Noon. Inurnment will be held in Garden of Memories Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the American Heart Association, P.O.
