Wilma Barrilleaux Reed (Willie), daughter of the late Acklin J. and Edna C. Barrilleaux, passed away on Saturday, April 3, 2021. She was 90 years old. She was preceded in death by her husband of 69 years, Jesse C. Reed (J.C), the son of the late Edward A. and Stella F. Reed, who passed away on Wednesday, April 8, 2020.
Wilma and J.C. are survived by their son and daughter-in-law, Michael A. and Teresa N. Reed; their grandchildren, Travis Reed, Trey Reed, Teila Reed Moulin (Chris) and one great-granddaughter, Hannah Michelle Moulin. She is also survived by a host of nieces and nephews. J.C. and Wilma were both predeceased by all of their siblings. J.C was the brother of Evelyn Billeaud (James), Edward A. Reed, Jr., Robert Reed and Thomas P. Reed, Sr. (Leona) and Wilma was the sister of Rita Damonte (Lloyd), May Whitman (Joe), Alma Bonilla (Fred), Edna Erath (Sidney), Walter Barrilleaux (MaryLee), James Barrilleaux (Ada), and A.J. Barrilleaux.
J.C. owned his own stock car and it raced in the Grand American NASCAR Series. Also, J.C. owned Rite Way Piston Ring Company which was established in 1944, and was originally located in New Orleans, but later moved the business’ location to its current location, 2416 Hickory Avenue in Metairie, Louisiana. J.C. served his country in the United States Navy and Naval Reserve. Wilma was employed 30 years with Southern Bell and then BellSouth in their accounting department becoming a supervisor. She was also past president for many years of the local Telephone Pioneers of America for the New Orleans area chapters. Wilma and J.C. were avid and enthusiastic fans of LSU football and have been season ticket holders since the 1950’s. Both attended and were lifelong parishioners of St. Edward the Confessor Catholic Church in Metairie, where Wilma was passionate about her charitable work through the Lay Carmelites and also a Eucharistic Minister.
A Catholic Service for Wilma as well as a remembrance for J.C. will be held at Garden of Memories Funeral Home, 4900 Airline Drive in Metairie, Louisiana on Saturday, April 17, 2021 at 1:00 pm. Visitation will be from 11:00 am until 1:00 pm.
Interment will be in the Chapel of Eternal Faith Mausoleum located in Garden of Memories Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations in both Wilma and J.C.’s honor be made to St. Edward the Confessor Catholic School, 4921 W. Metairie Avenue, Metairie, LA 70001.
