William Rosenbaum

William L. Rosenbaum, age 74, of New Orleans, LA died on Wednesday, November 7 at Ochsner/Baptist Hospital. Billy was born in New Orleans on October 8, 1944 to Leopold and Blanche Rosenbaum. He is survived by his husband, Jeffrey Faughnan, after a wonderful life together of more than 36 years. Also survived by his mother-in-law, Nanette McCutcheon; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Lisbeth and Russell Hepp, and their sons, Ryan and Eric – nephews whose lives he particularly cherished helping to enrich; father-in-law and step-mother-in-law, Bill and Carolyn Sobering, and their children, Holland and Juliet; his life-long and dear friend, Isabel Goldstein; and many cousins, including Eileen Gradwohl and Lynn Friedman.
Billy was a graduate of McMain High School (1962), Louisiana State University (BA, 1968), Loyola University (MA, 1973) and UNO (PhD 2000). He spent his professional career at St. Martin’s Episcopal School in Metairie, where he was a beloved teacher and counselor for 46 years. He also had a thriving private counseling practice for 25 years.
Billy loved his life with Jeffrey, traveling with his nephews, going to movies and theater, helping students and clients, and spending time with family and friends.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Louisiana SPCA, St. Martin’s Episcopal School, the American Cancer Society or the Historic New Orleans Collection.
A private memorial gathering is scheduled for November 17.
