Wayne Cannon, beloved husband, father and Poppa, passed away on Tuesday, December 29, 2020. Husband to Sandra Lacour Cannon for 58 years, and father of Sherry Vitter, David Cannon (Katie), Kelly Cazaux (Keith) and the late Wayne Cannon, Jr. “Little Wayne”. Poppa will be greatly missed by his grandchildren: Jennifer Vitter, Christopher Vitter (Michaela), Leigh Ann Silvestri (Paul), David Cannon Jr., Alexis Cannon (Gina) and Jeremy Cannon; great-grandchildren: Lucy Bella Vitter and Parker Cuadrado. His loving Brazilian daughter, Eliana (Rui), along with her children and grandchildren also mourn his passing.
Born on July 29, 1941 in New Orleans to the late Charles R. Cannon, Sr. and the late Claire Rihner Cannon, he is also survived by his brothers: Charles Cannon, Jr (Hazel), Gerald Cannon (Amelia) and Daryl Cannon (Bonnie), as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and family members.
A lifelong resident of River Ridge and retired owner of Blue Flash Sewer Service, Wayne was known to friends as “Flash.” Flash was passionate about politics, US Military history and loved a good conversation over drinks and dinner. He enjoyed gathering with friends and family, especially at his lakefront sanctuary known as The Boathouse. Never one to sit idle, Wayne was a planner, always with a notebook at hand and several creative projects in progress. His Catholic faith was an important part of his life and he found solace in mass, song and prayer.
A Catholic Funeral Mass is scheduled for Saturday, January 9, 2021 at St Rita Church, 7100 Jefferson Hwy in Harahan, LA with Father Steve officiating. Friends and family are invited to visit with the immediate family starting at 10:00 am with mass beginning at 11:00 am. Interment will be private in Garden of Memories Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity of your choice or in honor of Wayne’s devoted nephew, Brian, at Stop Soldier Suicide. https://stopsoldiersuicide.org/.
