Verna Claire Dupuy Ortega

Verna Claire Dupuy Ortega passed away on Tuesday, May 8, 2018 in Metairie, LA at the age of 92. Verna was born in New Orleans on September 13, 1925, the daughter of Lena Valenti Dupuy and Bernard Francis Dupuy Sr., and sister to Bernard F. Dupuy Jr. and Charmaine Rose Johnson.
She graduated from Ursuline Academy and went on to complete studies at Soule Business College. She fell in love with and married Philip Custer Ortega, her dance instructor. Verna was a loving and devoted mother to her sons, Rick (Marcy) and Randy (Karla) and daughter, Daria. She delighted in being grandmother to Amy Ortega Dupaquier, Dane Ortega, Randy Ortega, and Tracy Ortega and great-grandmother to Amelia Dupaquier. Her greatest happiness was being surrounded by her family.
Verna also had a passion for volunteering and joyfully served at East Jefferson General Hospital for 30 years, from 1982 to 2012, making many friends and cheerfully touching the lives of those she met. Verna was blessed with and nurtured a generous and loving heart that will be deeply missed. 
Verna’s family would like to thank the staff of Janice Home at Fidelis Residential Care Homes for their dedication and the quality care given her.
Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend the Funeral Service on Friday, May 11, 2018 at 11:00 am at the Garden of Memories Funeral Home, 4900 Airline Drive, Metairie, LA and visitation will begin at 9:00 am until service time. Burial will follow in the Garden of Memories Cemetery.
