Shirley Ala Wood

Shirley Ala Wood passed away on Monday, September 24, 2018 at the age of 79. She was preceded in death by her husband of 42 years, Robert T. Wood, III, and her parents, Virgil Ala and Mary Ala Pearson of Chesapeake, VA. She is survived by her daughter, Crystal D’Angelo (Vito), her step-daughters Kimberly Wood (Kim) and Colleen Birtwhistle, her sister Margaret Preddy and her grand pups, Ace and Shandi D’Angelo. Shirley was born in Norfolk, VA but moved to Jacksonville, FL at the age of 16. She moved around a lot as a child, as her father was Executive Vice President of Heinz. She graduated from Bishop Kenny High School in 1957. She lived in Jacksonville, then Orange Park until 2015, when she decided to move to New Orleans, LA. She was Catholic and a member of St. Catherine of Sienna Church in Orange Park. She worked for Prudential Insurance as a secretary for over 21 years. She enjoyed watching daytime tv and cop shows. Her favorite thing to do was play on one arm bandits. Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend the Memorial Service on Wednesday, October 3, 2018 at 2:00 pm at the Garden of Memories Funeral Home, 4900 Airline Drive, Metairie, LA and the visitation will begin at 12:00 pm until service time.
