Shirley M. Drexel

Shirley Mae Drexel passed away in New Orleans, LA on Saturday, March 17, 2018 at the age of 92. She was the beloved wife of the late Frank M. Drexel for almost 71 years; loving mother of Richard Drexel (Sandra) and the late Sheila Drexel; grandmother of Dr. Todd A. Drexel and Brent P. Drexel (Clare) and great-grandmother of Cassi Kidder (Forrest), Corrin, Caylee, Brayden, Grace, Anna, and Caroline Drexel. She was the daughter of the late Joseph and Isabel Zitzmann and sister of the late Mary Louise Martel. She is also survived by her nephews: Charles Martel, James Martel, Jr. (Kathy), and Joey Martel, and her loving extended family, John and Irene Rauch.
Shirley worked as an assistant manager for D.H. Holmes for over 30 years. She was the Past President of the Ladies Auxiliary of New Orleans Power Squadron and a member of the Silver Crusaders. She was a faithful parishioner of Ascension of Our Lord Church in Laplace, LA. The family would like to give special thanks to Notre Dame Hospice, especially Pamela, for their care of Mrs. Shirley.
A Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday, March 21, 2018 at 11:00 AM at Garden of Memories Funeral Home, 4900 Airline Drive in Metairie, LA. Visitation will begin at 9:00 AM. Interment will be in Garden of Memories Cemetery. The family greatly appreciates flowers, masses, or contributions to Notre Dame Hospice, 1000 Howard Ave. 10th Floor, New Orleans, LA 70113.
