Shelley Griffin Breaux

It is with deep sorrow and much love that we mourn the passing of Shelley Belinda Griffin Breaux on Saturday, July 17, 2021 at the age of 71. She was born May 06, 1950 and was a native and lifelong resident of Metairie, Louisiana where she was happily married to her husband, Bruce Pierre Breaux, for 51 and a half wonderful years.
She was a loving and nurturing mother to Kelley Breaux Varnado (Charles “Chad”, Jr.) and Jamie Melinda Breaux and a devoted Grandmama’ to three precious grandsons: Conner Edward Varnado, Carson Edison Varnado, and Griffin Michael Wattigney.
Shelley was preceded in death by her loving parents Henry and Kit Griffin. She is survived by two dear sisters, Wanda Hardin and Regina Brubaker (Dennis). She was sister-in-law to the late Jacqueline Daigle (Nelson) and is survived by sisters-in-law Sandra Roche (the late Gerald) and Babette Boudreaux (Michael). She was beloved by all of her family, friends, and especially her nieces and nephews each of whom has a unique and special story about their time spent with Aunt Shelley, a.k.a. Mimi Shelley.
Shelley was a graduate of Riverdale High School and attended Nicholls State University. Her career included work as a secretary and bookkeeper at Ochsner Hospital and MGM Construction, but her most enjoyable years were spent as a Kindergarten Teacher’s Assistant at St. Catherine of Siena, where she loved watching her students grow.
She treasured all of the quality time spent with her grandsons, nurturing their education and supporting their extra-curricular activities daily. She took pride in helping with homework, volunteering at school, creating art projects, playing games, and doing puzzles. Shelley also loved eating out and trying new restaurants, going to the movies, and spending quality time with family, friends, and her sweet little pups.
Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend the Funeral Mass to be held at St. Mary Magdalen Catholic Church, 6425 W. Metairie Ave., Metairie, LA 70003 on Saturday, July 24, 2021, at 12:00 p.m. Visitation will begin at 10:30 a.m. Interment will follow Mass at Greenwood Cemetery, 5190 Canal Blvd., New Orleans, LA 70124.
