Ruben Joseph "Jay" Reynolds, Jr., devoted husband and loving father, died on Thursday, April 26, 2018 at the age of 90.. He was born in New Orleans on September 18, 1927. Serving in the U.S. Navy for 4 years as a baker, he was honorably discharged with the rank of Commissaryman Third Class. He was a resident of Metairie, Louisiana for 66 years.
He worked as a cable splicer for South Central Bell for over thirty years. He was an active member in the following organizations: American Legion Post #137, for which he was Commander as well as holding other offices, Pioneer Life Club, First Friday Group, and Our Lady of Divine Providence Adoration Group. He was an avid golfer, belonging to the NOGA and City Park Golf Club. He loved joining his South Central Bell retiree friends for coffee every Friday morning to relive their various exploits. He also enjoyed bowling in various leagues and gambling at the casinos.
He is survived by his son, Vincent Reynolds and his wife, Carol Carter; daughter, Victoria Reynolds (Dranguet); and daughter, Vanessa Reynolds and her husband, George “Billy” Powers, III.
Jay, aka Paw Paw, is survived by nine grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren: Sarah Reynolds (husband, Brian Thiel), son Joshua and daughter Rebecca; Laura Reynolds (husband, Mark van Vrancken), daughter Emma; Jennifer Reynolds (husband, Pauli Juneau), son Francis and daughter Genevieve; Catherine Reynolds (husband Robert “Chip” Campbell), son Carson; Alicia Powers (fiancee, Josh Fox), daughters Fiona and Callie; Heather Powers (husband, Keith Hooks), sons Ruben and Julian; Brittany Dranguet; Larissa Powers; and Beau Powers. He is also survived by two brothers and their respective wives: Martin Wardell and Yvonne Bourgeois Reynolds, and Paul Frank and Joanne “Georgia” Reynolds; and by seven nieces and nephews, and numerous great-nieces and great-nephews. He is preceded by the love of his life, his wife, Aline Badeaux Reynolds; his father, Ruben Joseph Reynolds, Sr.; and his mother, Victoria Mary Mayeux.
Visiting hours for Jay and Aline will take place at the Garden of Memories Funeral Home, 4900 Airline Dr. in Metairie, LA on Tuesday, May 1, 2018 from 10:00 am until 12:00 noon with a Funeral Mass in the chapel at 12:00 noon officiated by Fr. Mike Mitchell, and burial will follow at 2:00 pm at St. Peter’s Cemetery, 1550 Hwy. 44 in Reserve, Louisiana.
Jay’s family wishes to extend a heartfelt thanks to the caring staff at Lakeside Hospice and Canon Hospice in Metairie. You made an otherwise tragic situation into an act of love. Our parents were together until the end and you made that possible. Thank you.
