Rose Jeanne Roussel Buccola passed away peacefully on July 1, 2022 at the age of 93 to be with her husband, the love of her life, Victor J. Buccola. They were happily married for 65 years, enjoying many road trips together during retirement years. She was a native of Baton Rouge and a resident of Destrehan.
Rose was a dedicated registered nurse. She graduated Class of ’49 from Charity Hospital School of Nursing in New Orleans. Subsequent to her nursing career, she became the first female U.S. Customs Agent in the New Orleans district in 1970 and retired in 1986.
At her leisure, she loved to travel, visiting with her many friends. She also enjoyed cooking her family’s favorite dishes; seafood gumbo, potato salad, and bread pudding. She treasured spending time with her great grandchildren, sharing with them her love of piano playing.
A devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend, Rose is survived by her three children; Sheryl B. Austin, Victor L. Buccola, and Jeanne B. Jackson, her three grandchildren; Daniel, Cameron, and Veronica; five great grandchildren; Charlotte, Cameron, Beckham, Brantley, and Crew. She is also survived by her two sisters; Brenda Hernandez and Juanita Hargrove.
Rose is preceded in death by her parents, Hunter Roussel, Sr and Sarah Louise Gordon, and her four brothers; Hunter L., Louis W., Benjamin W., and Adrien A. Roussel. Also survived by a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
A private burial was held at Garden of Memories Cemetery at 4900 Airline Drive, Metairie, Louisiana.
