Rosalie Tourne’ Torres

Rosalie Tourne’ Torres passed away peacefully in New Orleans, Louisiana on Friday, March 16, 2018 at the age of 98. She is remembered by her family for her enthusiasm, strength, creativity, kindness, culinary skills and love of animals. She was the beloved wife of the late Frederick Frank Torres, Sr.; loving mother of five children – Judy Pellissier (Sidney), Sandra Brechtel (Michael), Rick (Vivian), Rosalie, and Philip Torres; grandmother of Colette Pellissier, Jeannine Engel (Michael), Eliska Fournier (Shawn), and Tourne’, Phillip, Sierra, and Charles Torres; great-grandmother of Lauren, Benjamin and Jack Engel, and Julien Fournier. She was the daughter of the late Constance and Phillip Tourne’ and sister of the late Josette Tourne’ Crais. She is also survived by her niece Sarah Dawkins (Ronald) and great nephews Stewart and Christopher Dawkins. For a significant number of years, Rosalie and her family have been blessed with the loving care and friendship of Lloyd Mae Lockett, to whom we wish to express our love and thanks.
Rosalie was a homemaker and artist. She was a Past President of the Louisiana Mental Health Association in New Orleans. In the 1980s she earned her associate’s degree from Delgado Community College and her Bachelor’s Degree from Loyola University, both in Fine Arts. She then earned her Master’s Degree in Counseling from Loyola University.
A funeral service will be held on what would have been her 99th birthday, Monday, April 16, 2018 at 12:00 p.m.at the Garden of Memories Funeral Home, 4900 Airline Drive, Metairie, Louisiana 70001. Visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m. Interment will follow the service in Garden of Memories Cemetery.
