Monte Gene Brown

November 25, 1933 ~ January 19, 2020 (age 86) 86 Years Old

Tribute

Monte Gene Brown slipped the bonds of his earthly existence on Sunday, January 19, 2020, after a brief illness. He was preceded in death by his parents, Walter Augustus Brown and Wilma Pearl May and his brother Alton Brown. Born in Hodge, Louisiana on November 25, 1933, he lived in Texas, New Hampshire and Virginia. Returning to Louisiana in the 1980s, he lived the rest of his life in Jefferson Parish. He spent most of his early work years moving around the country working as a newspaper type setter before transitioning into work as an automotive parts dealer and warehouse manager, until his retirement. In his early retirement, he enjoyed the freedom and independence of working as a hot shot delivery driver. Beloved husband of Norma Jean Brown, the heart of the Brown family for thirty years prior to her death in March 1986, he never remarried. Father to Monte Len Brown (Melinda), his eldest son who passed away in February 2014, he is survived by Walter Dale Brown (Cheryl) and Matthew Devin Brown (Phyllis). He was a true original with a wonderful laugh, a twinkle in his eye, and was as sweet as his giant “sweet tooth”. He was a proud Life Member of the National Rifle Association and decades long member of the Jefferson Parish Chapter of Ducks Unlimited. He was a dedicated husband, father and father in law to the family which meant everything to him. The anchor in the lives of his family he will be dearly missed and his loss will be felt by his loved ones to the end of their days. On Saturday, February 1, 2020, there will be private visitation from 8:30a.m. to 9:00a.m. followed by a memorial from 9:00a.m. to 11:00a.m. at Garden of Memories Funeral Home, 4900 Airline Drive, Metairie, Louisiana.
