Michael Thomas Damore

July 5, 1930 ~ February 1, 2024 (age 93) 93 Years Old

Tribute

Michael T. “Mike” Damore passed away peacefully on February 1, 2024, after a life well lived of 93 years. The youngest of six children, he was born on July 5, 1930, and grew up during the Great Depression and World War II. These experiences helped shaped the strong work ethic, self-reliant attitude, and devotion to family and friends that he carried throughout his life. Mike’s 42-year career as a commercial artist began after his honorable discharge from the U.S. Army. With advertising billboards as the canvas, he shared his talent using the greater New Orleans area as the gallery.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 68 years, Ottilie Western Damore; sons, Michael T. Damore, Jr. (with wife Rhonda) and Stephen F. Damore (with wife Regina); grandchildren: Lauren M. Damore, Christopher M. Damore (with wife Natalie), Michael J. Damore, and Zach Damore; and great-grandchildren, Taylor M. Damore and Daniel T. Damore. He was predeceased by his parents, the late Michael J. Damore and Josephine R. Damore; sisters: the late Francis Harney, Angelina Esposito, Rita Brisbi, and Doris D’Antonio; and brother, the late Anthony Damore. He is also survived by many nephews and nieces.
In retirement, he enjoyed traveling and remained a skillful DIYer, but his greatest enjoyment was spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Whether cheating at cards or suggesting that ice cream was a reasonable substitute for dinner, he was the mischievous playmate in whose eyes they could do no wrong. He was a member of American Legion Kenner Post 0377, which served as a proud reminder of the service he gave to his country.
The family would like to thank the many medical professionals that worked with Mike over the years, with special thanks to Becky McCalla and Allison Houston.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, February 17, 2024, at St. Ann Church and Shrine, 4940 Meadowdale Street, Metairie, LA 70006.
