Melissa Kaye Brignac Barthel

Melissa Kaye Brignac Barthel passed away on Thursday, June 30, 2022 at the young age of 46. She was born in Richmond, VA on June 15, 1976 and was a resident of Harahan, LA. Melissa received her Bachelor’s Degree from LSU and a Master’s from University of Louisiana Lafayette where she became a Licensed Professional Counselor. She worked with Community Care Hospital as the Director of Outpatient and Social Services. Melissa was a great cook and enjoyed decorating and celebrating every holiday. She loved supporting her son’s football and baseball teams at John Curtis Christian School and Eastbank Little League. Her toughness showed through her battle with cancer and ultimately she became a Breast Cancer Survivor. Her true loves were her husband, her kids, her dogs and the beach.
Melissa is survived by her loving and devoted husband, Kevin Barthel; her precious son, Grayson Barthel; her stepson, Carson Barthel; her mother, Bonnie Bodin Arton originally from Baldwin, LA and her husband, Michael of Lafayette, LA; her father, James Steve Brignac originally from Lafayette, LA and his wife, Vicky of Broussard, LA; her sister Lindsey Anne Brignac Comeaux and her husband, Jerret; her stepsister, April Cheramie and her husband, Bryan; her mother-in-law, Julie Barthel; her sister-in-law, Robyn Barthel; her aunts, Beverly Weis and Joy Breaux Bodin; her uncles, Charles Brignac and Russel Weis; her nieces and nephews: Chelsey, Connor, Cole, Gabrielle, Alisse, Michelle, and Dylan; as well as numerous cousins and friends. She was preceded in death by her paternal grandparents, James Beverly Brignac and Mary Alice Ritchey; her maternal grandparents, Gabriel Bodin, Sr. and Violet Concienne Bodin; her father-in-law, Henry Barthel; her uncles: John Mark Brignac, Gabriel Bodin, Jr., Melvin Bodin; and her aunt, Janice Singleton Bodin.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend the Memorial Service at Garden of Memories Funeral Home, 4900 Airline Drive Metairie, LA 70001 on Saturday, July 16, 2022. Visitation will begin at 11:00 am with a Service starting at 1:00 pm. Her burial will take place at a later date in Lafayette Memorial Cemetery.
