Medary Gerard Boudreaux

June 17, 1921 ~ January 9, 2018 (age 96) 96 Years Old
Medary Gerard Boudreaux, a native of New Orleans and a resident of Metairie, passed away on Tuesday, January 9, 2018 at the age of 96. Beloved and devoted husband of the late Sylvia Rauch Boudreaux and the late Louise Schell Boudreaux. He was preceded in death by his parents, Medary Louis Boudreaux and Alma Mary Schaefer, and his siblings: Raymond Boudreaux, Lashley Boudreaux, Alma Maillion, and Faye Allain. He was the loving father of Merilynn Donelon (James) and Sylvia Couvillion. He is also survived by his grandchildren: Shawn Dowd (Greg), Erin Alford (Raley), Julie Schneider (Larry), Meghan Donelon, Thomas Allen, Craig Allen, and Scott Allen; his step-grandchildren, Michelle Fleetwood and Melanie Vinson (Ron); and his great-grandchildren: Sarah Dowd, Patrick Dowd, Charles Dowd, Katherine Alford, Elizabeth Alford, Helen Alford, Ellen Schneider, and Margaret Schneider.
Medary was a longtime member of St. Ann Church and the Knights of Columbus DeLaSalle Council. He was a graduate of S.J. Peters High School in New Orleans, LA. A veteran of World War II, he proudly served in the United States Army Air Corps from 1943 and 1947 where he was assigned to work on the B-29 aircraft. Before entering the service, he worked for several years at Higgins Industries, where he helped to build the landing crafts and torpedo boats that were used in the D-Day invasion. After the War, he was employed at the Pullman Railway Company before becoming a carpenter. Over the years, he built hundreds of custom homes in the greater New Orleans area. Medary was an avid gardener and fisherman. He treasured his time spent fishing in Lake Ponchartrain and on the coast of Mississippi. He also loved to travel, and his favorite destination was Bermuda. He will always be remembered as a gentle, caring, and humble man. The family thanks his devoted care givers: Ed, Dee, Diana, Mary, and Thelma, and the staffs of the Louisiana War Veterans Home, St. Joseph Hospice, and Canon Hospice. Medary was loved dearly and will be sorely missed by his family, friends, and neighbors.
