May Cristina

May Delauneville Cristina, age 94, passed away on Monday, May 28, 2018 at her residence.
She is survived by seven children: Barbara Bourgeois; Terry Naumann (Chris); Anthony “Jay” Cristina, III (Ange); Bruce Cristina; Charles “Chuck” Cristina (Zelita); Mark Cristina (Lori); and Wendy Norris (Archie); thirteen grandchildren: Earl “Joey” Bourgeois , lll.; Christopher Naumann, lll.; Patrick “P.J.” Nassar ; Jennifer Cristina; Amy Cristina Molina; Nicholas Naumann ; Anthony “Joseph” Cristina, IV; Mark Cristina, Jr.; Katie Cristina Dinett ; Bruce Cristina; Archie Norris, III; Taylor Norris; and Catherine Norris, and eight great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband of 56 years, Anthony Joseph “A.J.” Cristina, Jr.; a daughter, Trudy Hebert; a son-in-law, Earl “Butch” Bourgeois Jr, and her parents, Joseph Delauneville and Gladys Goss Delauneville .
May was raised in Harahan and graduated from Kenner High School, where she excelled in athletics, setting Jefferson Parish records in several track events. She continued her love of sports into adulthood both as a fan and player, especially of tennis. As a young woman, May worked as a telephone operator for Bell South and in a war plant during World War II. After the war, she married her high school sweetheart and raised eight children in River Ridge. May supported her husband, Judge A.J. Cristina, in his campaigns and thirty-four year career as Justice of the Peace of Jefferson Parish. In addition to being a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, May was an active parishioner of St. Matthew the Apostle Catholic Church, an excellent cook, and an avid reader. She loved to be outside in her garden and at her camp in Grand Isle.
The entire family would like to express its deepest appreciation for the loving care given to Mimi both by family members and outside caregivers during her illness.
A Funeral Mass will be held on Saturday morning, June 2, 2018 at 11:00 am at Garden of Memories Funeral Home, 4900 Airline Drive in Metairie. Visitation will begin at 9:00 am. Interment will be in Garden of Memories Cemetery.
