Mary Zimmermann Hansen

Mary Zimmermann Hansen passed away peacefully on Sunday, October 14, 2018, 14 days shy of her 97th birthday. She joins the love of her life of 65 years in heaven, the late Karl M. Hansen, Sr. She was also preceded in death by her parents, John A. Zimmermann and Agnes Landry Zimmermann; her stepmother, Miriam Summersgill Zimmermann; and her siblings: Dorothy Z. Hecker, Lucille Z. Griffin, John A. Zimmermann, Jr., and Elizabeth Zimmermann.
Mary leaves behind to cherish her memories: her children: Kathryn H. Lorentzson (Julius), Karl M. Hansen, Jr., J. Michael Hansen (Ann), Margaret “Peggy” H. Austin (Gordon), Jane H. Morgan (Timothy), and Elizabeth H. Laird (Michael); her siblings, Margaret Z. Murphy and Lawrence “Bill” Zimmermann; 11 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Mary was a devout Catholic and longtime parishioner at St. Rita Catholic Church in Harahan, LA. She was a teacher at St. Agnes and enjoyed putting on plays with the children at school and at St. Rita summer camp. She volunteered for many years at Kenner Regional Hospital. Mary was a loving wife and mother who was known for being happy and optimistic. She loved to draw and paint and especially loved music and singing, as she participated in Jesuit’s choir and in a community orchestra.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend the Funeral Services at Garden of Memories Funeral Home and Cemetery, 4900 Airline Drive, Metairie, LA 70001 on Friday, October 19, 2018. Visitation will begin at 11:00 am with the Funeral Service starting at 1:00 pm followed by burial.
