Maria Garces

Maria Carmen Garces, owner of the 5 beans rated and famous Cuban restaurant in MidCity "Garces", passed away peacefully on Friday, May 12, 2023 at the age of 84. She was preceded in death by her parents, Apolonio Martinez, Maria del Carmen Alvarez, and Aurelio Alvarez, and her brother, Aurelio Alvarez, Jr. She will be dearly missed by her sons, David Gutierrez (Lisa) and José Gutierrez, Jr. (Robin); 5 grandchildren: Justin M. Gutierrez, Dr. Melissa A. Gutierrez, Michele E. Gutierrez, David Gutierrez, Jr., and Danny M. Gutierrez; 3 great-grandchildren: Ariana C. Gutierrez, Amelia C. Gutierrez, and Miguel Lobo; her 3 siblings: Elisa Ghattas, Jesus Alvarez, and Isabel Alvarez Gamoneda; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
A graveside service will be held at Garden of Memories Cemetery, 4900 Airline Drive Metairie, LA 70001 in the Chapel of Peace Mausoleum on Monday, May 22, 2023 at 2:00 PM. Online condolences may be offered at www.gardenofmemoriesmetairie.com.
