Maria Elisa Acevedo age 77, passed away peacefully at her home in Kenner, surrounded by family on Sunday, September 9, 2018. She was born August 21, 1941 in San Pedro Sula, Honduras to Arturo and Maria Paula (Sanchez) Bueso. Beloved wife of the late Jose Salvador Acevedo, Sr. Loving mother of Jose Salvador Acevedo, Jr. (Doris), Sandra Acevedo, Lilly A. Acevedo, Richard Acevedo (Camelia), and Charles Acevedo (Carolina); Sister of Marina Rodriguez
“Tito” as she was affectionately known immigrated to the United States in 1974 at the age of 32. She resided in New Orleans before settling in Kenner, LA in 1980. She worked in the Jefferson Parish School System at Greenlawn Elementary while her twin sons Richard and Charles attended school there. She loved to travel, have guests over to her home for chats and spending time with her family and friends. As the family grew she particularly enjoyed our Mother’s Day celebration nicknamed “The Acevedo Extravaganza”, Thanksgiving, and Christmas. Not able to be tied down, she would regularly be spotted riding her red scooter on the sidewalks of Greenlawn Subdivision around her home. As she got older she grew fond of Casino Visits, Scratch offs and feeding the ducks along Vintage Dr.
Preceded in death by her husband, parents and siblings Manuel, Enrique, Vilma, Teresa and Aurora "Yoya" Bueso. She is survived by 18 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
We will miss our beloved and deeply cherished mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She maintained her strong will, dedication, generosity and fine sense of humor to the end of her life.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend the Funeral Services at Garden of Memories Funeral Home, 4900 Airline Drive in Metairie, LA on Saturday, September 15, 2018. Visitation will begin at 12:00 Noon with a Funeral Mass at 2:00 PM followed by burial in Garden of Memories Cemetery.
