Margaret Ann Callahan Herrmann Athey, 82, departed this life and entered into her eternal rest on November 3, 2017. She was the beloved wife of Donald L. Athey, Sr., for 56 years and the loving mother of Larry Athey (Gini), Kim Durr, Charles Athey (Cindy), and Josie Bernard (Scott). She was the loving grandmother to Katie Athey, Alison Athey (Spencer), Nicholas Durr (Jaime), Daniel Athey (Alex), Philip Athey, Abigail Athey, Zachary Bernard, and Caitlyn Bernard. Our mother was devoted to and loved her family unconditionally. She is also survived by her brothers, H. L. “Sonny” Callahan and Mike Callahan; sisters, Madeline (Sissy) Martin, Mary Jane Emmick, Rosie Smitherman and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her birth parents, Herbert and Fan Callahan; adoptive parents, Charlie and Josephine Herrmann; grandson, Christopher Bryan Hansley; brothers Charlie Callahan and Terry Callahan; and a sister, Patricia Dempster. She was born and raised in Mobile, AL, and resided in Harahan, LA for the last 38 years. She was a parishioner of St. Rita Church for the past 37 years. She retired from the US Department of Energy after 25 years of service with the US Government. She will be deeply missed by her family and friends.
The family would like to thank her caregivers, Janelle Jackson and LaToya McLaughlin, and Ochsner doctors Leslie Blake, Braddock Burns, and Sumi Satti for providing her care for the past several years.

Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend the Funeral Mass on Wednesday, November 8, 2017 at 11:00 am at Garden of Memories Funeral Home, 4900 Airline Drive, Metairie, LA. Visitation will begin at 9:00 am. Burial will follow in Garden of Memories Cemetery.
