Lester Joseph Palmisano Sr.

Lester “Les” Joseph Palmisano, Sr., of New Orleans, LA, passed away peacefully at his home in Kenner, Louisiana on Saturday, November 17, 2018 at the age of 81. His generous heart, integrity, professionalism and strong faith was obvious to all who knew him. Les, affectionately known as Grandaddy to his family will truly be missed and never be forgotten.
Les is survived and loved by his wife of 61 years, Jeannine Helen Landry Palmisano; his four children: Sharon Palmisano Ledoux, Cheryl Marie Palmisano, Lester Joseph Palmisano, Jr., David Wayne Palmisano; 13 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren.
Les was born November 22, 1936 in New Orleans, Louisiana and was preceded in death by his parents, Disimone and Irene Mahl Palmisano, and his brother, Gerald Felix Palmisano.
Les attended Pass Christian High School and served in the United States Air Force from 1956 to 1959. He was an entrepreneur at an early age and founded Gulf Engine & Equipment, Inc. in 1968. The company is thriving today operated by second generation family members. Les was a private pilot and flew his aircraft out of St. John Regional Airport for recreation. He was an active member of the EAA and enjoyed maintaining his aircrafts. Les was a member of Chateau Golf and Country Club where he enjoyed playing tennis and golf with his wife and friends. Grandaddy enjoyed boating, fishing and the outdoors. Most of all he enjoyed spending time with his family.
The family would like to thank Lester’s good friend and trusted physician Dr. Robert Songy for his great care and also the dedicated staff of Advantage and Hospice Compassus.
Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend a Funeral Mass on Wednesday, November 21, 2018 at the Garden of Memories Funeral Home & Cemetery, 4900 Airline Dr. Metairie, LA 70001 at 12:00 Noon. Visitation will be held from 10:00 am until Mass time followed by interment.
