Beloved Sister, Aunt and Teacher Leslie Rubin Graf passed away at age 65 on February 23, 2018. Daughter of the late Dr. Wallace Rubin and Mrs. Elsie Gelpi Rubin, Leslie was born in New Orleans on June 12, 1952, and lived in the city she loved all her life. She graduated from the Isidore Newman School in 1969 and earned her Bachelor of Science degree from Newcomb College at Tulane University in 1972. Immediately after graduating, she began teaching math at the Academy of the Sacred Heart, earning a Master of Education from Loyola University in 1984. Leslie remained at Sacred Heart for 45 years, earning the respect and love of two generations of young women as well as that of her colleagues. She also loved animals and fostered many abandoned cats for a local rescue organization. Leslie's intelligence, feistiness, sense of humor, and kindness endeared her to all who knew her. She is survived by her sisters, Connie Rubin of New Orleans and Joyce Rubin Schwartz (Richard Schwartz) of Chevy Chase, MD; her nephews, Dr. Ryan Rubin (Rebecca Rubin) of New Orleans, Justin Rubin (Dana McCaw) of Los Angeles and Eric Schwartz (Emma Arons) of Washington, DC; her niece, Sara Rothberg (Alex Rothberg) of Denver, CO; her great-nephew, Jaxon Rubin of Los Angeles; her great-nieces, Lea and Alice Schwartz, of Washington, DC; her great-niece and great-nephew, Nina and Rudy Rothberg of Denver; and her longtime companion, Neal Cherry of New Orleans. There will be a memorial service at Sacred Heart on March 24, 2018 at 1 pm. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in Leslie's memory to The Academy of the Sacred Heart, 4521 St. Charles Avenue, New Orleans, LA 70115 or to the animal rescue organization of your choice.
