Leonard Graml Malone

August 7, 1943 ~ April 5, 2021 (age 77) 77 Years Old

Tribute

Leonard Graml “Al” Malone, lifelong resident of New Orleans, entered eternal life on April 5, 2021. He was 77.

His passing marks the end of over two centuries of Leonard Malones in New Orleans. Captain Leonard Malone, his great-great grandfather, left Ireland in 1820 to settle in New Orleans.

Also affectionately known to many as “Pop”, he was a graduate of De La Salle High School, Louisiana State University, and The School of Hard Knocks. He was a mechanical engineer and founded his company, Plastic Supply & Fabrication, in 1969. In addition to fabricating viewports for diving vessels, he was highly involved with the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) and helped establish the standards for pressure vessels for human occupancy (PVHO). He loved being on his sailboat, diving, gardening, rising early, traveling the world, fishing, dining out, and finding creative ways to fix things.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Anna Graml Malone and Leonard Crassons Malone; his aunt, Dorothy Graml Dillon; and his feisty Jack Russell Terrier sidekick, Skooter. He is survived by his siblings, Terence Malone and Nancy Malone and their families; and by his three daughters: Lauren Malone Keller (Rob), Alison Malone Duffy (Jeremy), and Kristin Malone Johnson (Jeff). He is also survived by his six grandchildren: Robert Malone Keller, Kathryn Anne Keller, Everett Stephen Keller, Quinn Olivia Duffy, Gemma Lydia Duffy, Grant Malone Johnson. He also leaves behind his friend and surrogate son, Gary Danos.

A graveside service will be held at 2:00 pm Saturday, April 10 at Garden of Memories Funeral Home and Cemetery, 4900 Airline Drive Metairie, LA 70001. Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend.
