Larry Blakeney McVay Sr. passed away on Wednesday, March 16, 2021 at the age 95. He was born on November 9, 1925 to Cullen and Essie McVay in Stuttgart, Arkansas. He was preceded in death by his wife, Genevieve “Jenny” Vitrano McVay; his brothers, Thomas McVay (Helen) and G.W. McVay (Candy); his sisters, Dorothy Perez (Charles) and Martha Monrose (Maurice); and his nephews, Tommy McVay and Donnie McVay. Larry is survived by his daughter, Carol Guidry (Joe); his son, Larry McVay, Jr. (Angie); his grandchildren: Jennifer Guidry Inman (Kenny), Shelley Guidry Costa (Duston), Stephen Guidry (Kim), Larry McVay, III (Mandy), and Lindsey McVay Simon (Trey); 13 great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Larry proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy during World War II and the U.S. Marine Corps during the Korean War. He retired from Jefferson Parish where he was the Director of General Services and Procurement.
The family would like to give special thanks to the staff of Concerned Care Hospice, especially Gina, Rachel, Hiroki, Dawn, Dr. David Myers, and Dr. Paul Spring.
Services will be private at Garden of Memories Funeral Home & Cemetery, 4900 Airline Drive Metairie, LA 70001.
