Julio A. Flores Alonzo Sr., age 99, entered eternal rest on Sunday June 24, 2018 surrounded by his loving family. Resident of New Orleans for 35 years and a parishioner of St. Leo the Great. He then became a resident of Metairie for 30 years and a parishioner of St. Ann Church and Shrine. Beloved husband to the late Virginia G. Lizano Alonzo. Father of Margarita Rosario Alonzo Butera (the late Joseph III), Virginia Lucia Alonzo Gassen (Jody), Julio Armando Alonzo (Marlene), the late Elizabeth Maria Alonzo Lucio (David), and John Joseph Alonzo. Grandfather to Angelina Maria Butera, Daniella Lucia Gassen Solarzano (Medardo), Sabrina Elizabeth Gassen, Sophia Elizabeth Alonzo, Jonathan David Lucio, Victoria Christina Gassen, Antonio Lizano Alonzo, Stephen Andrew Lucio and Joseph Lizano Alonzo. Great grandfather to Alaina Elizabeth Gassen Coleman. Daughters-in-law are Della Alonzo Rollins and Diane Lucio Perry. Mr. Alonzo was born in Ecuador to the late Victor Flores and the late Marguerita Alonzo Flores. He was one of sixteen children and is survived by numerous nieces, nephews and an expansive Flores family including his dear sister, Gloria Flores Guyton. Mr. Alonzo was a Second Lieutenant in the U.S. Coast Guard and served as a mariner in the U.S. Merchant Marines during WWII, the Korean War, the Vietnam Conflict and Operation Desert Storm.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend the visitation on Monday, July 2, 2018 beginning at 11:30 am followed by a Funeral Mass at 2:00 pm at Garden of Memories Funeral Home, 4900 Airline Drive in Metairie. Interment will be in Garden of Memories Cemetery.
