Tribute

Joycelyn Theisges Bagley a life-long resident of Metairie, LA passed away on February 5, 2021, age 79, at Ochsner Medical Center after a month-long battle with Coronavirus.
She is survived by Gerald Bagley Sr., her husband of 32 years, stepsons Gerald Bagley, Jr., Ryan Bagley (Ronda), her 4 grandchildren Brooke & Bryce Bagley, Taylor & Alyssa Bagley, her sisters, Janice Hayman, Karen Gautreau (Bubby), Charlotte Franks (Rick), her brothers Lenny Theisges (Diane), J.C. Theisges (Shelia), Gary Theisges (Jennifer), Larry Theisges, Steven Theisges (Holly), Godchildren Nicole Theisges Lemoine, and Emily Hayman Collins, along with ample more nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. She is preceded in death by her parents Loretta Theisges and Julius Theisges, Sr., her brother Julius Theisges, Jr., sister-in-law Geraldine Theisges, brother-in-law Lee Hayman, Goddaughter Deborah Theisges Guercia, and nephew Andrew Theisges.
Joycelyn worked in accounts payable for 46 years at Hotel Dieu Hospital and University Hospital where she retired from in 2005. Upon her mother’s death in 1993, Joycelyn quickly stepped in and assumed the role of matriarch for this large Catholic family. She was a devoted wife, stepmother, aunt and sister who instilled a genuine sense of compassion for everyone in her life. Family, food, and faith were particularly important and you could always find her in the kitchen preparing a meal or organizing another gathering. Each year, Joycelyn expressed extraordinary enthusiasm while planning two main events: the St. Patrick’s Day parade tailgate and the Theisges family crawfish boil. The crowd grew larger year over year as she would include many others from her “extended family”. Her passion for football and the New Orleans Saints was evident as she always cheered from her own personal sideline while rooting for her favorite players, however she will always be our MVP. Some other extracurricular activities included Friday night festivities with her best friends, and of course -- attempting to hit the jackpot occasionally at the casino (AKA: the boat).
There wasn’t anything she wouldn’t do for her family and so many were fortunate enough to experience her love. Caring, affectionate, loving, kind-hearted, gracious, loyal, generous, noble, genuine, and determined, are just some of the words that describe Joycelyn. Her smile was warm and infectious, and her legacy will live on within the lives of those she touched. Joycelyn will be deeply missed by her family, friends and anyone who encountered her.
The family wishes to express their sincere gratitude to the staff of Ochsner Medical Center, especially Dr. Derek Vonderhaar, for their professional, compassionate, and heartfelt care for Joycelyn during her battle.
