Joseph C Hymel

Joseph Cline Hymel passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by his family on Thursday, June 28, 2018 at the age of 85. He was preceded in death by his parents, Amilcar Joseph Hymel and Elta Nicholas, and his sisters, Susan Verdin and Gustavia Freeman. Joseph is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Jacqueline Salzer Hymel; his children: Laurel Landry, Allison Davis, Rebecca Ramirez (Eddy), Melissa Dunn (Martin), and Eric Hymel; his sisters, Janice Gauthier and Marietta Hymel; 14 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. He was also survived by Deniece and Christian Orgeron and many nieces and nephews.
Joseph was a resident of River Ridge, LA for 54 years and was a parishioner of St. Matthew the Apostle Catholic Church. He served in the U.S. Army in Iceland from 1957 until 1958 and served in the Naval Reserves for 5 years. He worked at American Can Co. for 10 years and later retired from Prager, Inc. after 20 years of service. Joseph was an avid machinist and was a member of Union Local #37. He enjoyed working in his garden especially planting his red roses. He danced with his wife in many groups, such as Buck Fever where they clogged, Bar None where they square danced, and Spinning Rounds where they round danced. The family would like to give special thanks to Egan Hospice for their care of Joseph, especially Jennifer, Simone, and Joann.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend the funeral services at St. Matthew the Apostle, 10021 Jefferson Hwy. in River Ridge, LA on Monday, July 2, 2018. Visitation will begin at the church at 10:00 am with a Funeral Mass at 12:00 Noon. Interment will follow in Garden of Memories Cemetery, 4900 Airline Dr. in Metairie, LA.
