Joe E. Milam, 71, of Metairie, LA passed away peacefully in his home surrounded by his family on Monday, October 1st, 2018.
Joe was a retired Jefferson Parish Public Schools Administrator where he devoted his professional life to the molding and mentoring of students and teachers for over 33 years. In his personal time, he was LIHA member and enjoyed traveling and dancing at Native American Pow-Wows. Joe’s eager spirit to helping family, friends, and neighbors was an inspiration to all who knew him. His willingness to serve will be profoundly missed and cherished. As a devoted husband, father, brother, grandfather, and uncle, he loved his family dearly and treasured time spent with all.
Joe was preceded in death by his father, G.E. Milam, mother, Sarah M. Milam, daughter-in-law, Jamie G. Milam, and brother-in-law, James Pumphrey, nephews Matthew and Michael Milam.
Survived by wife Debora P. Milam, sons Timothy (Amy) and Robert Milam, grandchildren Benjamin and Avery Milam, brothers George (Gail), Pat (Deborah), brother from another mother Charlie (Betty) Walters, brother-in-law’s Richard (Diann) Pumphrey, and Thomas Pumphrey, and a host of nieces, nephews, grand-nieces and grand-nephews.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, October 6th, 2018 at 1:00 pm at Bridgedale Baptist Church located at 313 Kent Ave. Metairie, LA 70001. Rev. Rob Nichols and Rev. Gene Richards will officiate.
