Jerome Melvin Ricks, Sr.

Jerome Melvin Ricks Sr., passed away peacefully in his home surrounded by his family at the age of 84. Jerome was born in New Orleans, Louisiana on March 11, 1937. He is survived by his beloved wife of 61 years, Rosalie F. Ricks. He is also survived by his children, Jerome M. Ricks Jr., Tracy R. Ricks (Greg Bosse), Michele R. Kraft, and Michael D. Ricks; grandchildren Kasey C. Kraft, Kassidy C. Kraft, and Kristian C. Kraft; siblings Carol Schyo, Betty Jane Salvaggio, Bernard R. Ricks and many other nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives. Jerome is preceded in death by his parents Gladys L. Ricks and Charles B. Ricks; siblings, Doris Whitt, Gladys Farnsworth, Shirley Boudreaux, Sylvia Kirka, Clayton Ricks, Charles Ricks and beloved granddaughter, Jessica Marie Ricks.
Jerome proudly served in the United States Coast Guard from 1955- 1959. He was a dedicated employee to the Blazer Finance Group for 35 years and proprietor of the Big Scoop Ice Cream Shoppe in the late 1970’s. He retired at the age of 55. Jerome loved to fish and watch all the Saints and LSU football games. He also loved spending time at home with his family. A visitation will be held at the Garden of Memories Funeral Home, 4900 Airline Drive, Metairie, LA. 70001, on Tuesday, July 13, 2021 at 9:30 am. A Funeral Mass will follow at 11:30 in the chapel of the Funeral Home.
