Idell Harrell Spears went to her heavenly home to be with the Lord on Monday, October 18, 2021. She was the beloved wife of 50 years to the late Jack Dempsey Spears. Loving mother of 7 children: Kenny Spears, Dwayne Spears (Priscilla), Kerry Spears (Trenice), Sheila Spears-Hilaire, Junetta Spears, Joanetta Spears, Karen Spears Casimire, and her stepson, Sylrester Spears (Mavis). Grandmother of 10 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren. Daughter of the late Gus and Alice Harrell. Sister of the late Willie, Walter, James, Burnell, and Joe Harrell, Edna Mae Harrell, Thelma Bradford, Irene Collins, and Dorothy Turner. Sister-in-law of Peggy Harrell, Irma Spears, and Rosiella Westbrook.
Idell was a graduate of Clinton High School in Clinton, MS. She retired after many years of service from Belle Chasse State School. Idell enjoyed spending her spare time with family and friends.
Relatives and friends of the family, as well as pastors, officers, and members of the Greater St. Stephen FBGC, St. Stephens Baptist Church, Second Baptist Church and neighboring churches, employees of Ochsner Hospital, West Jefferson Medical Center, Delgado Community College, Piccadilly Restaurant, and the United States Postal Service are invited to attend the Funeral Services at Greenwood Funeral Home, 5200 Canal Blvd. New Orleans, LA 70124 on Monday, October 25, 2021. The family will receive guests beginning at 10:00 am with a service officiated by Pastor John H. Sanders, Sr. starting at 11:00 am. Burial will follow in Garden of Memories Cemetery in Metairie, LA. Arrangements are under the care of Garden of Memories Funeral Home.
