Gloria Lanoux Mazzeno died peacefully at 97 years old on Thursday, May 20, 2021, at East Jefferson General Hospital. Beloved wife of Laurence (Buddy)William Mazzeno, Jr., for 76 years. Mother of Laurence William Mazzeno, III (Cynthia), Hope Anne Mazzeno, Mary Mazzeno Bordelon (Pat), and Susan Mazzeno Newburger (Kirby). Daughter of the late Leonce Paul Lanoux and Bertha Melancon Lanoux. Preceded In death by her brother, Leonce Paul (Buddy) Lanoux and her sister, Patricia Lanoux Rayes. She is survived by 10 grandchildren: William Paul (Heather) and Stephen David Mazzeno (Katie); P.J., Elizabeth Bordelon Young (Eugene), Mark Laurence (Kelsie), and Capt. Andrew Wiltz Bordelon (Erin); Kenneth Laurence (Corissa), Diana Ivy, Elden Patrick and Theresa Evelyn Newburger. She is also survived by 15 great-grandchildren: Eva Nicole, Astrid Elizabeth, and Hayden James Mazzeno; Abby Lee Sapp; Matthew Liam and Christopher Ian Mazzeno; Ronin Somsak, Caroline Elizabeth and Camille Evelyn Young; Brewer Thomas and Gatlin Xavier Bordelon; Emma Joyce, Jackson Scott and Charlotte Hope Bordelon; and Kirby Roland Newburger. Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren were the light of her life.
Gloria was a graduate of McMain High School in 1940. She participated in the Echoes of McMain’s annual  May luncheon every first Saturday from 1949 until 2005. She raised her family in the Carrollton neighborhood. She was a devoted member and supporter of Mater Dolorosa Church and School. In 1973, she and her family moved to Metairie where she became a member of St. Angela Merici Parish. She was a member of the SALA and Senior Citizens‘ organizations. She enjoyed attending the 4:00 vigil Mass at St. Angela followed by Saturday suppers with friends. Gloria volunteered at East Jefferson Hospital Sunshine Gift Shop every Monday for 25 years.
The family wishes to express their heartfelt thanks to the staff of the sixth floor east of East Jefferson General Hospital for their compassion and care during her final days.
Family and friends are invited to attend the funeral services at St. Angela Merici Church, 901 Beverly Garden Drive, Metairie, LA 70002 on Tuesday, May 25, 2021. Visitation will begin at 10:30 am followed by Mass at 1:00 pm. Interment will be in the Garden of Memories Cemetery, 4900 Airline Drive, Metairie, LA 70001.
