Gladys Mae Chauff

June 18, 1918 ~ December 25, 2020 (age 102) 102 Years Old

Tribute

Gladys Mae Desroche Chauff, 102 ½ years old, left this world to return to her Heavenly Father on Friday, December 25, 2020.  She was the devoted and loving wife of the late Wilbert Chauff for 53 wonderful years. She was the mother of Carol Brunies (Don) and the late Lowell Chauff (Ruth) and Corliss Segari (Robert). She was the grandmother of Felicia Scholle (Steve), April Fontenot (Tony), Wendy Friedman, D.O. (Wells), Lisa Cavalier (Marc), Stephen Segari (Andi), Ashley Hoyuela (Janic) and the late Christopher Segari. She is also survived by six great-grandchildren, eight great-great grandchildren and four great-great-great-grandchildren.
Mae, as she preferred to be called, was a homemaker and mother who was active in St. Agnes Church when she lived in Jefferson, LA for over 50 years. She played the piano since the age of three and loved to sew, shop and play Bingo. She also crocheted and donated preemie caps to Children’s Hospital. She read three newspapers daily and would get annoyed if they weren’t delivered in a timely fashion. She got her first driver’s license at the age of 74 and used her newfound ability to provide transportation for her friends, taking them to the grocery, church, and of course, Bingo. After moving to Covington in 2005 to live with her daughter, a serious fall led her to be a resident in Heritage Manor of Mandeville where she insisted on staying after therapy. She immensely enjoyed the new social life she established while there – Bingo every day and music frequently. She especially enjoyed listening to her favorite singer, Marguerite who sang regularly for the residents.  COV-ID season was the beginning of her demise. Although she survived after contracting the virus, she missed the fun she had become accustomed to as well as her family. Her quality of life was diminished as well as her sight and hearing. This just furthered the yearning she had to be with her husband Wilbert again who was the only love she had ever known. She grieved for him since his passing in 1992. Her family would like to thank the staff of Heritage Manor for the care and fun they provided in addition to her roommate and family for loving her as they did. Finally, the family wishes to thank St. Catherine’s Hospice for doing the Lord’s work.
