George Joseph Cassara, Jr. passed away Wednesday, April 20, 2022 at the age of 83. He was preceded in death by his father, George J. Cassara, Sr. and his mother, Mary Werling Cassara. He is survived by his loving wife, Barbara LeJeune Cassara, daughter, Gina Leigh Cassara, nephew, Donald Cassara, Jr. (Shannon), great-nephews, Trey, Cameron, Ethan and Liam Cassara, and his sister-in-law, Mary Boudreaux. He is also survived by his brother, Donald Cassara, Sr. (Nancy) and many other nephews, godsons (Scotty and Jason Boudreaux), nieces and close friends. He was affectionately known as “GC” by young tennis buddies that he loved as his own. He was a special “Uncle George” to Erin Bruce Saucier (Kyle).
George worked as a salesman for many years before starting his own appliance distribution business. He worked hard and smart - and played equally hard. He learned to play tennis as an adult, but was extremely successful in local, state, and southern tournaments, playing with and against his friends, Turner Holt, Lee Rhodes, Art Bonneval, Jr, Ronnie Shiell, Dr. Merv Trail, Tony Maniscalco, and John Zamora. He loved to fish with his buddy, Billy Mohr, and his nephews, even if it was for pinfish. He loved a good meal and enjoyed lunches with his buddy, Ken Klein.
He was always present, enthusiastic, and ready to talk. He was dearly loved by so many and is already missed by family, friends, and his pups, Kirby, Finn, and Maisie.
Family and friends are invited to attend the Services on Thursday, April 28th, 2022 at Garden of Memories Funeral Home, 4900 Airline Drive, Metairie, LA 70001, with visitation beginning at 9:00 a.m. and a Catholic Mass at 11 a.m. Interment will occur at a later date.
