Fukiko "Judy" Kasahara Sekinger passed away peacefully on January 29, 2021 at 91 years young, surrounded by her loving family at home in Harahan, LA.
She was born in Gifu, Japan but spent the majority of her life in New Orleans, LA where she met the love of her life, Ernest Sekinger Jr. whom she married on September 13, 1953. She was a true New Orleans icon. Everyone always recognized the Japanese woman who rode her bike to Harrah’s Casino. Judy could be found at almost every parade for Mardi Gras, and when Mardi Gras was canceled this year, it was time for her to go parading in Heaven.
She was always the life of the party, and never met a person she couldn’t make laugh. Anyone that met her would quickly become her friend. Judy’s grandson, Ben Wicks, owned Mahony’s PoBoys where she loved working and socializing. She entertained the customers while they dined.
Judy is survived by her beloved daughter, Yolanda Sekinger Poche; her grandchildren: Benjamin Wicks (Cammie), Davey Wicks, Brent Poche (Rachel), Christopher Poche (Arianna), Jennifer Eskine, Rebecca Toruno (Javier), and Tracy Elizabeth (Javier); 17 great-grandchildren, and many other loving relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband and soulmate, Ernest Sekinger Jr. and her beloved daughter, Kim Sekinger.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Memorial Mass at 1:00 PM on Saturday, February 13, 2021 at Garden of Memories Funeral Home, 4900 Airline Dr. in Metairie, LA 70001. Visitation will begin at 11:00 AM. Interment will be private in Garden of Memories Cemetery.
