Ethel Mae "Granny" Henderson

Ethel Mae “Granny” Henderson, a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, passed away on Saturday, December 1, 2018 at the age of 90. She was a lifelong resident of Kenner and a parishioner of Our Lady Star of the Sea Catholic Church. She is survived by her children: Rogers Johnson, Jr., Deadre Johnson Edwards (Ronald), Desmonde Henderson, Gina Thies and Cedric Henderson; ten grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren. Also survived by a host of cousins and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, Ethel Brazile and Eddie Henderson; a son, Marcus Henderson and a grandson, Rogers Johnson, III. She was an amazing seamstress and was the President of the Filmore Street Civic Association and the Neighborhood Watch Captain who hosted National Night Out since its inception. She was a member of ACORN, a lifelong union leader and a member of SEIU/ULU Local 100. She received the MLK Award and numerous proclamations. Ethel could be found daily on her porch chatting with and giving advice to all who stopped by to visit. She will be missed by all.
Visitation will be held on Friday, December 7, 2018 at Garden of Memories Funeral Home, 4900 Airline Drive in Metairie, LA from 9:00 a.m. until the Memorial Mass at 11:00 a.m. Interment will be held in St. John Mausoleum located in Garden of Memories Cemetery.
