Estelle Augustus

Estelle Jackson Augustus entered into eternal rest on Saturday, July 9, 2022, at the age of 99 in Metairie, Louisiana. Estelle was born in West Feliciana Parish, Louisiana, to the late Dewey Jackson and the late Mattie Alford Jackson. She moved to Biloxi, MS in the late 1930s before moving to New Orleans, where she remained a life-long resident.  She was a domestic worker for many years.  Estelle was baptized at a young age. She enjoyed gardening, cooking and spending time with family.  She had a great sense of humor and enjoyed playing practical jokes on family and friends.  She had a generous spirit and loved slipping money in your pocket as her way of saying thank you.
Estelle leaves to cherish her memory 4 siblings: Justine Jackson Grasty, Mattie Bell Jackson, Helen Jackson Humbles, and Robert Jackson; a devoted niece, M. Chris Cantrelle;  godson, Richard Ingram Jr.; stepdaughter, Fredrica Augustus of Houston, Texas; step granddaughter, Tosha Foster of Houston, Texas; step grandson, Jase Patterson of Houston, Texas;  as well as a host of nieces/nephews, cousins, relatives, and friends.  Estelle was preceded in death by her father, Dewey Jackson; mother, Mattie Alford Jackson; siblings: Katie Jackson, Loretta Jackson Bland, Rosa Jackson Collins, Howard Jackson, David Jackson and Carl Jackson; husband, Freddie Augustus; and niece, Laura Bland Ingram.
The family would like to thank the many people for their kind words of sympathy, care and support, especially Metairie HealthCare Center and Compassus Hospice, and a host of other family and friends.
