Elroy C. Landry passed away on Sunday, November 5, 2017 at the age of 81. As a young man, he was active in several youth sporting leagues winning bronze, silver and gold medals at the Times Picayune track and field events. While at John McDonough, Sr. High School, he was an accomplished member of the football, basketball and baseball teams. He was awarded seven varsity letters and one varsity football silver-monogrammed award.  As of today, Elroy is still tied for lead as the winner of the most varsity letters won at John McDonough, Sr. High School.  His career path was in law enforcement.  At NOPD, he played on the departmental and commercial athletic league teams in touch football, softball and golf.   On the force he held the positions of Jailer, Desk Sergeant, Police Supervisor, Investigator and finally, Chief Investigator. Despite his accomplishments, what he considered to be the most important job or activity that a man can ever have, is being that of a husband and father. He honored that commitment in his marriage of 60 years to Patricia Ward Landry and as the devoted father of Lance D. Landry, Glenn S. Landry (Maria) and Kelly L. Sellars (Wes). He was the beloved grandfather of Jason (Amber), Brandon, Ashley, Brett (Bonnie), Jordan, Taylor and great-grandfather of Carmela and Olivia. He is also survived by his three sisters, Joyce Gieseler, Marian Levesque and Carol Landry along with many loving nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by his parents, Lawrence Landry and Cora Albert and his brother, Lawrence “Sonny” Landry.
A Funeral Service will be held at 1:00 pm on Friday, November 10, 2017 at Garden of Memories Funeral Home, 4900 Airline Drive in Metairie, LA. Visitation will begin at 10:00 am. Interment will be in Garden of Memories Cemetery.
