Eldridge “Bud” Joseph Leger, Sr., age 92, passed away on Friday, July 20, 2018 at his home in Jefferson, LA. Eldridge joins his beloved wife of 62 years, who preceded him in death. He was the son of the late Arthur and Aline Triche Leger. He is survived by his daughter, Katherine Leger Simpson (Seth), his son, Eldridge Leger, Jr. (Eliza), his daughter, Elizabeth Leger Mullen (Bud) and his son, Stephen Leger (Kay). He was the grandfather of Major Seth Simpson IV (Brandi), Lauren Simpson Lee (Matt), Brett Simpson (Laura), Sharice Leger Richard (Justin), Dr. Joel Leger, Remy Leger, the late Edward Mullen, Kristie Knesel and Emily Knesel. He was the great-grandfather of Jacob Lee, Seth Simpson V, Zackary Lee, Bailey Simpson, Eleanor Richard, Aurora Oddo, Genevieve Richard, Roman Pierce and Grant Simpson. Brother of the late Annabel Leger Armagnac, Clyde Leger and Kathleen Leger Toenneges. Eldridge was a parishioner of St. Agnes Catholic Church for 63 years where he also served as an usher for many of those years. He was the recipient of the Order of St. Louis Medal. He served as an aviation electrician in the U.S. Navy for six years and worked as an accountant for Hormel Packing Company for 40 years. He and Sarah enjoyed dancing and were members of the School House Squares and Round Dancing Club. After his retirement, he could be found in his backyard tending to his massive vegetable garden or watching a good western on TV. He was also Sarah’s main caregiver until her death in March of 2017.
The family would like to thank Cynthia Jones for the loving care and support which she provided to their dad during the past ten months of his life. In addition, they would also like to thank Interim Hospice for their ongoing care.
Services will be held on Saturday, July 28, 2018 at Garden of Memories Funeral Home, 4900 Airline Dr. in Metairie, LA. Visitation will begin at 10:00 am with a Funeral Mass at 12:00 pm. Burial will be in the Courtyard Mausoleum located in Garden of Memories Cemetery.
