Edward Leslie Gil Sr.

Edward Leslie Gil, Sr. was born on February 11, 1937 in New Orleans to the parents of Victor Manuel Gil and Martha Carson-Gil, and passed away on July 5, 2022 in Metairie, LA.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 47 years, Iris Marie Babb-Gil; infant daughter, Yolanda Maria Gil; parents, Victor and Martha Gil; siblings, Rudy (Lydia), Russell and Gloria (Leo Oubre); and sister in laws, Patricia Babb-Cavalier and Sandra LeBlanc-Gil.
He is survived by his children, Edward Jr., Michael (Anne Galloway-Gil), Christopher, Stephen (Amie Morris-Gil), Stacey (Jorge Castañeda) and Stephanie (Abraham Zamora); grandchildren, Aaliyah, Chloe, Leah, Jacob, Sarah, Casen, Sophia, and Mia; and siblings, Paul, Butch (Beverly), and Barbara (Edward Lefevre).
Edward was a Veteran of the Army National Guard, a 4th degree member of the Knights of Columbus with the title Past Grand Knight, a president of the St. James Major Holy Name Society, an Assistant Scout Master for Troop 35 of the Boy Scouts of America, a lifelong musician and saxophone player for the St. Charles Streetcar Band, an artist and longtime member of the Louisiana Watercolor Society and the St. Charles Art Guild. This good and honorable man of many names (Edward, Les, Sas, Grandpa, Dad) will be dearly missed by all.
Visitation/Funeral services will be held at the Garden of Memories Funeral Home at 4900 Airline Drive, Metairie, LA on Tuesday, July 12, 2022 at 11:00am. Rosary will begin at 1:30pm and Religious services will be at 2:00pm.  Interment will follow in St. Louis Cemetery #3, 3421 Esplanade Ave, New Orleans, LA 70119.
