Dorothy was born in Sinton, Texas on December 15, 1930. She grew up on her parents’ cotton farm there and graduated from Sinton High School. Her brother, Jim Vickers, invited his friend Bob Lacomb to visit his family, and that is when he met and fell in love with Dorothy. They married on April 16, 1948, remaining together until Bob’s passing in 2015.
A lifelong devoted wife, mother and hard working Christian, Dorothy also distinguished herself in service to her church, Kenner First United Methodist Church, for more than 50 years. She served as church secretary for 25 years. She also worked at Destrehan Plantation as Assistant Manager for several years and then at East Jefferson Hospital for 12 years. An avid reader with a love of learning, she was a longstanding member of the literary study group, The Reader’s Club. Dorothy will be remembered for her loving way, her strong work ethic, and her generosity. She is deeply missed.
