Tribute

Doris Calloway White (Dori) passed away peacefully on Sunday, November 25, 2018. She was born to the late Violet Busic Smart (Ross Smart, deceased) and the late Bill Calloway (Evelyn Calloway, deceased) on September 28, 1929. Doris grew up with two brothers she adored, Billy Calloway and Van Calloway (deceased).
Doris graduated from Hooks High School and Kilgore College, where she was a member of the Rangerettes. She attended Stephen F. Austin State University where she was on the swim and tennis teams and met her husband, Frank White, Jr. (deceased). Doris was a model and a Beauty Queen. She was a Camp Fire Leader, Sunday School Teacher, substitute Teacher, and PTA activist. She loved to dance. Her faith in God and the goodness of the Universe was deep and unwavering. Doris retired from Sears, Roebuck and Company; she adored her work family and every one of her days there. She was a longtime volunteer and friend to all. Doris had a smile and gentle helping hand always for those in need.
The love and great joy of Doris’ life was her family. She always made time for everyone and always put everyone’s needs above her own. Doris was the beloved angel to her family and her sweet, funny, bright spirit will be so missed. Her “Rangerette smile” could thaw any cold heart and heal any hurt. Doris’ goodness and sparkle made every day special for those around her; she always reminded her family to “Love One Another.” Doris always remembered everyone’s favorites; all her family and friends will treasure forever her sweet and loving cards, notes, letters. She was kind to everyone and made friends wherever she went. The strength of Doris’ soul and the depth of her love and devotion will be an inspiration forever. Beloved Mother, beloved “Dice,” Doris made everyone around her a better person.
Along with her three daughters and sons -in-law, Dora White Luckette and Chris Luckette, Patty White Fortunato and Frankie Fortunato, Sally White Cohen; Doris is survived by her brother, Billy Calloway, and seven grandchildren, Ali Ruiz, Charli Womac, Jeffrey Cohen, Jody Fortunato, Natalie Fortunato Godbold, Amber Luckette and Jason Luckette.
