Doris M Shields

Doris McMillan Shields was called home to our Lord on Sunday, September 18, 2022. Born to the late Harold and Ouida (Honey) McMillan of New Orleans, Louisiana on July 30, 1939. She was 83 years old. She graduated from L.E. Raboin High School and was a resident of Harahan, Louisiana for over 70 years.
Doris was blessed with a loving family and married her best friend, Bob Shields. They were married for 63 years and raised two loving daughters together.
She loved fishing, camping, traveling, and cruising. She was best known as the “Road Runner” which was the name of her School Bus #452 that she drove for Jefferson Parish Schools for 23 years.
   In her later years she enjoyed spending time with all her friends at the Harahan Senior Center.
   Doris was a unique and caring individual who touched the lives of all who knew her. She devoted her entire life to her family, children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and friends.
   Doris was preceded in death by her sister Betty McMillan Martin (Carroll). She is survived by her husband Bob Shields, daughters Donna Shields Nix (Bobby), Robin Shields Windstein (Timmy), grandchildren Craig Nix, Ryan Nix (Jamie), Haley Windstein, Hannah Windstein, great grandchildren Gavin, Easton, & Nolan Nix, along with many adored nieces and nephews.
   The family would like to thank all her caregivers for their compassionate care especially her niece, Karla Tassin for all her hard work. Doris will be forever missed.
   Family and friends are invited to attend a Celebration of Life gathering on Thursday, September 22nd, from 10:00am – 12:00pm at the Garden of Memories located on 4900 Airline Highway, Metairie, LA. Mass will start at 12:00pm. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in Doris’ memory to St. Jude Children’s Hospital.
