Doris Irma Koenig Mills

Doris Irma Koenig Mills, age 93, passed away peacefully with her children by her side on Sunday, April 15, 2018. She was born October 27, 1924 to the late Sarah Schomaker and William Koenig of New Orleans, Louisiana. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Warren Leeman “Lee” Mills of 58 years and her daughter, Judy Lee Mills Powers. She graduated from Our Lady of Good Counsel in 1940 and Maybain Business College in 1941. She was a member of the “Greatest Generation” and met the love of her life, her beloved husband Lee at a USO dance and was married in 1944. She worked as a clerical/accounting clerk for Patent Scaffolding Company retiring in 1984. She was a member of the Gentilly Woods Friday Night Card Club. She was a former parishioner of St. Gabriel the Archangel Church for many years until she lost her home and all her belongings due to Hurricane Katrina in August 2005. After Hurricane Katrina, she relocated to Metairie and was a faithful and practicing parishioner of Our Lady of Divine Providence Church. She continued to be active until her recent illness, attending daily Mass and being a committed adorer to the Our Lady of Divine Providence Perpetual Eucharistic Adoration Chapel, volunteering at Our Lady of Divine Providence School serving lunch, Treasurer of the Delta Golden Age Club of the Jefferson Parish Recreational Department, attending her grandson’s baseball games, and helping whoever needed assistance. She is survived by her daughter Dale Claudia Mills Pritchett (Mike) and son Brian Anthony Mills (Jane); her grandchildren: David Michael Powers (Melanie), Jason Robert Powers (Lori), Daniel John Powers, Jennifer Lee Pritchett Montegut and Michael Joseph Pritchett II; her great-grandchildren: Lindsey Anne Powers, Stephen David Powers, Kaitlyn Ashley Powers, Randolph James Montegut II and Luke Jacob Montegut and sisters, Audrey Oswald (Norman) and Muriel “Mimi” Habeney. Also survived and loved by numerous nieces and nephews, cousins and friends. She had a big heart always willing to help others in need. She will be deeply missed by all those who knew her and was touched by her life.
Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend the Funeral Mass on Thursday, April 19, 2018 at 1:00 pm at Garden of Memories Funeral Home, 4900 Airline Drive, Metairie, LA, 504-833-3786. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, April 18, 2018 from 6:00 pm until 9:00 pm and on Thursday, April 19, 2018 from 11:30 am until 1:00 pm. Interment will be private.
