On Saturday, the twenty third day of June, in the year of our Lord 2018, Denis Joseph Beer took flight to reunite with his creator in heaven. The eldest son of a Chemical Engineer, Joachim Joseph Beer and Zelda Mary Youngblood, Denis J. Beer passed peacefully at his home in the presence of his wife of 43 years, Linda Trapani Beer. Mr. Beer is survived by his wife Linda, their eldest daughter, Rachel Beer Calico and her husband Kevin; including his grandchildren Sophia and Angelo Calico. His youngest daughter, Sara Beer Fortuna and her husband Nick; including his grandchildren Amiel, Benjamin, and Lucia Fortuna. Also Mr. Beer is survived by his younger brother Ian Beer and wife Paula. A graduate of Tulane University, Mr. Denis J. Beer was a proud 45 year employee and professional engineer of the United States Army Corps of Engineers, New Orleans District, within the Engineering Division. Born in New Orleans on September 24, 1947, Mr. Beer loved to travel abroad, dance, spend time outdoors with his dog, Lillybelle, an avid music lover, and remained an active gardener for the duration of his days. Mr. Beer also served as an adjunct professor in the Engineering Department at the University of New Orleans for 25 years, spanning from 1982 – 2007. He was a member of the American Society of Civil Engineers, the USACE Active for Life Program, and the USACE Asian American Heritage Club.
Visitation will take place at St. Edward the Confessor Church in Metairie on Thursday, June 28th, from 9:00am-12:00 pm. Mass will be held at 12:00pm followed by internment at Garden of Memories in Metairie.
