Deborah "Debbie" Hughes Swiber

August 18, 1952 ~ June 2, 2022 (age 69) 69 Years Old

Tribute

Deborah “Debbie” Swiber, age 69, was born in New Orleans, LA on August 18, 1952 and passed away peacefully, surrounded by her closest loved ones, on June 2, 2022 in Kenner, LA.
In this life, our most-rewarding experiences are those of human connection. Debbie invested greatly in these moments. Her early life was very hard, and she experienced a great loss as a young girl when her mother passed away, but she held on to the love they shared and devoted her life to spreading love to others. Debbie’s legacy is one of abundant love; in her last moments, she was surrounded by her devoted family, and she is loved by many members in the community.
Debbie was a true socialite. Even her occupation focused on helping others connect. She devoted 37 and a half years to the Ochsner Hospital System, serving as the supervisor of the Central Appointment Desk. She never met a stranger, and could strike up a conversation with anyone, anywhere. Furthermore, Debbie invested time in numerous thriving communities. She was very active in several social organizations. She was a dedicated member of the Retiree’s Club of Oschner Appointment Desk, an active member of the 4473rd chapter of AARP, and the leader of the social club, “Just for Fun.” She loved Mardi Gras, and she is a former queen of the Krewe of Diana (1973).
We all love a great adventure, but Debbie made such an experience a priority. She enjoyed going on cruises with her loved ones and was well-traveled. She loved making memories with her family and experiencing new parts of the world. She enjoyed life to the fullest and filled it with unique and enjoyable experiences with the people she loved most.
She was preceded in death by her father, James L. Hughes, Sr; her mother, Adessa S. Hughes; her grandmother, Anna Rolff; her father-in-law, Harold A. Swiber, Sr; her mother-in-law, Louise “Wheezy” Swiber; and her nephew, Randy Canazarro.
She is survived by her husband of 48 years, Harold A. Swiber, Jr.; her daughter, Melissa Lee (Walter Boone); her grandchildren, Kristin “Alex” Swiber (Reinier Johnson) and Joshua A. Lee (Raya Courtney); her sister, Judy Canazarro; her brother, James Hughes, Jr.; her sisters-in-law, Mary Lou Plaegar and Marlene Bilac; and numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews. She also devoted much of her life to the care of several adopted animals.
