David James Scharfenstein Sr. went home to be with our Lord and Savior on Friday, December 22, 2017 surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Metairie, LA and a lifelong resident of New Orleans, LA. He is the oldest son of ten children to the late Leslie and Florence Miller Scharfenstein. Husband of the late Ruby Lamb Scharfenstein for 64 years. Father of David Jr. (Liz), Judy Hudson (Jack), Peggy Scharfenstein, and the late Nancy Digangi (Pete). Also survived by six grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends including his church family at Grace Baptist Church. David served his country as a Merchant Marine during World War II and worked for United Cab for many years. He also was a lifelong member and Deacon at Grace Baptist Church in the Ninth Ward. 
Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend the Funeral Service at the Garden of Memories Funeral Home, 4900 Airline Drive in Metairie, LA on Wednesday, January 3, 2018 at 1:00 pm with a visitation beginning at 11:00 am. Burial will be in the Garden of Memories Cemetery.
