David Charles Berwick passed away at North Oaks Hospital in Hammond on Friday, July 20, 2018. David was born on November 3, 1948, and will be forever remembered as “Crazy Dave” King of Carpet. He attended East Jefferson High School and was a life-long member of Phi Lambda Epsilon Fraternity. His love for his brothers remained steadfast until his death with pictures that covered his walls. He joined the Merchant Marines to travel the world. He settled in the Ponchatoula/Hammond area where he owned Dave’s Carpet. David was a weekly writer for The Daily Star; worked at WHMD KAJUN 107.1 giving commentary on current events or any topic of interest; and was a proud member of Ponchatoula Rotary. He was well read, and loved all sports particularly golf and baseball. David was known for his collection of hats, a dapper dresser, and always filled a room with his wide smile. He was one of a kind! He will be deeply missed. RIP
David is survived by his step-father, Eugene Hew; sisters: Charlice Hew (Michael Byrd), Charlotte Hew (Steve Bernard), Alice Hew (Todd Hoppmeyer); his nieces and nephew; and the rest of his family and friends. David is preceded in death by his mother, Beverly Berwick Hew.
A celebration of life will be held at First United Methodist Church, 201 East Pine Street, Ponchatoula, LA 70454 at on Saturday, July 28, 2018. Visitation begins at 10:00 AM with a Service starting at 11:00 AM.
