Tribute

David Alfred Daly, Jr. passed away peacefully at his home on Tuesday, June 28, 2022 at the age of 83. At his side was his loving wife of 40 years, Annabelle “Ann” Paddock Daly. He is survived by his beloved daughter, Dana Daly Bye, and his stepsons, Keith Trosclair (Lisa) and Samuel Sketteno. Mr. Daly was preceded in death, by one month, by his son, David Alfred Daly III. Grandfather of Daniel Bye, Brooke Bye, Vincent Sketteno, Zachary Sketteno, Michele Trosclair, Christie Trosclair Duhe (Derrick) and Jose Hidalgo (Liz). Great grandfather of 8. Brother of Daniel Daly (Suzanne), Carol Daly Murla (David) and Kathleen Cline Crosskill (Charles). He is also survived by nieces, nephew, cousins, other relatives and friends. David will be sorely missed by his devoted canine “podner” Bentley. Mr. Daly was the son of the late David Alfred Daly, Sr. and Olivia Ruth Cline. David was born in New Orleans and lived most of his life in Metairie. He graduated from East Jefferson High School in 1957 and attended LSU. Early on in his work career, he was an insulator and a member of Insulator's Local 53. During the 1970's and early 1980's, David pursued his interest in and love of motorcycles by becoming co-owner of Performance Cycle, located in Metairie, where he sold and repaired motorcycles. He also raced various motorcycles in competition. Most notably, he built a triple engine Norton top fuel racing bike for which he won the Outstanding Engineering Award at the 12th Annual International World of Wheels in 1978. David later owned a lawn care business, Environmental Services Residential Maintenance Division, operating it until he sold the business and retired. A hobby that brought David a great deal of pleasure, particularly in retirement, was playing pool, especially with his friends and competitors at Corner Pocket in Kenner. He was quite a talented player and won first place for his age group in almost every Senior Olympics competition in which he participated. David always enjoyed spending time with his family whether it was hosting Christmas Eve gatherings for family and friends, sharing October birthday events with his grandkids, barbecuing with his in-laws or watching Saints games with his siblings. He will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved him. Special thanks to St. Joseph Hospice.
